Hair Removal

We all have hair wed rather not have, whether for appearances sake or as a matter of good hygiene. When we have it removed, we want it to stay that way for as long as possible. Dr Marcinkus has many years experience and a knowledge of the most up-to-date techniques for the effective removal of unwanted facial and body hair for both men and women.

Many advances have been made in every field of cosmetic and plastic surgery and procedures for the removal of unwanted hair are no exception. Dr Marcinkus, however, has kept exceptionally ahead of the others when it comes to performing all that the latest technologies have to offer.

In this particular field, for instance, it is the removal of hair by a gentle and carefully targeted beam of laser light. In the capable hands of someone as skilled as Dr Marcinkus, its a task especially well suited to the laser (which is actually an acronym standing for Light Amplification by Stimulated Emission of Radiation).

The laser works by targeting the melanin pigment in the hair in an effort to destroy the hair follicle. Hair follicles produce hairs of various thickness and colors. Dark hair contains the pigment melanin, which serves as the target for energy delivered by the laser. The laser emits a specific light beam that is selectively absorbed by the pigment located in the hair follicle. The laser energy is absorbed by the pigmented hair shaft and is then transferred to the surrounding follicle. This causes thermal destruction of these hair follicles and disrupts their ability to regenerate, resulting in permanent hair reduction. The laser light eradicates hundreds of hair follicles in seconds.

Taking these principles a step further, Dr Marcinkus employs the very latest Sciton Profile laser, ClearScan. ClearScan brings a new approach to laser hair removal. ClearScan contains an infrared laser that can selectively target microstructures such as hair follicles. It is very effective for lighter skin types and, because of the relatively low absorption of this light by melanin, it is the best choice when treating darker skin types. Additionally, the ability to safely treat sun-tanned skin makes this the treatment of choice for active individuals.

Laser hair removal causes permanent hair reduction and delayed re-growth of the treated hair follicles. Also, re-growing hair is often smaller in caliber and lighter in color than previously.

You may need an average of 3-6 treatments because only hairs in the active growth phase, anagen, can be successfully treated. More than one treatment is required to disable hair follicles that subsequently enter this growth phase. The treatments are 6-8 weeks apart for the body and 4-6 weeks apart for the face.
